4 WAYS TO GET THE BEST PHOTOS AS A SOLO TRAVELER
Click, click, click! There’s something about getting that perfect photo that just makes you feel so happy inside!! You can relive that moment almost perfectly, and it brings back all the fuzzy, warm feels. But wait. I’m traveling by myself. How IN THE HECK do I get fabulous photos of myself?! Lucky for you… I am a professional self-timer guru, and I pride myself on getting about 90% of my photos from a self-timer. So, how do I snag these photos? Let me tell you!
HAVING THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT
In order to get the best photos, you absolutely need the right equipment. And when I talk about right equipment, I am mainly talking about a tripod. The tripod I use is the JOBY GorillaPod and it is awesome!! This tripod is so stellar because it is so flexible!! The arms move all over the flipping place, and you will for sure get the photo you want with this beast! And if you’re looking for even more convenience, get a self-timer remote control. Then you don’t have to keep going back and forth to press the camera button.
THE EARLY BIRD GETS THE PHOTO
This point really proves true that you are 110% dedicated to getting the best photos!! For this photo, I had to get up at 6:00 in the morning, in order to get to the parks first thing, before the crowd rush!! A photo can sometimes look unreal when there is no one in your background. But this IS reality when you get to your destination at the right time!! And typically, that’s really early in the morning. So, go to bed early and suck it up!! The photos and memories will be worth it!
DON’T BE AFRAID TO LOOK SILLY
Let’s talk about the ridiculousness of this photo. Hehehe! I most likely looked like a DANG FOOL trying to get this photo. I had my tripod set up on the back of a table chair, and I kept going back and forth just holding this shake. But I got the photo I wanted! When you’re looking to get the photo you truly desire, you just have to go out and do it!! People are going to look at you funny, and maybe even whisper to one another. But who cares!!! As my husband always says, “They’re just jealous…”!! Hehehe! But the moral of this story is; you are going to look silly and weird sometimes setting up your tripod to get photos of yourself. BUT WHO CARES. Once you do it a few times, you’ll get comfortable with it and not be phased by the google eyes looking your way.
GET COMFORTABLE PHOTOGRAPHING YOURSELF AT DIFFERENT ANGLES
This is something I feel some women sincerely struggle with. I can’t even count how many times I’ve heard, “Make sure to get me good side!” when the ladies are getting their photos taken. Heck! I’ve said it! Well, sometimes when you’re by yourself, you don’t really have the option to get your good side. You have to work with what you’ve got!! So, experiment with different angles!! Mix things up a little bit and love yourself from all aspects!
You ready to go out and get some fabulous photos of yourself now!?! If you are getting ready to plan your first solo trip, and are still struggling with the idea of taking photos of yourself… I would highly recommend going around your town or even in your house, and practice taking photos! This will help you feel more comfortable, and assist you getting accustom to your photography equipment. I can’t wait to start seeing all your solo travel photos!
